@m1brett No. A 40 is definitely louder than a44. I just said a 40 isn't as loud as you might think on a 4.0L motor.A straight 6 motor isn't that loud due to design, inherently. A V-6 or a V-8 would certainly be louder.

Not trying to be rude but you heard wrong, putting a V8 in an XJ Cherokee is a big job, not even close to 'lining up'. You need custom motor mounts, have to use the V8 transmission, custom crossmember, often a bigger radiator, and sometimes low profile / block hugger style headers because there is very little room. It's totally doable and has been done before, but is not a small job by any means!

if you get the right set up you can make them pretty close.... look up jeep 4.0 borla exhaust theres one there that sounds great.. but thats not just a $40 muffler, its a $1200 system

Grand Cherokee (ZJ) is totally different than the Cherokee (XJ). I got a Magnaflow high flow cat and 2 1/2" pipe cat back.

What size muffler did you go with ? offset/offset or center/center ?
