The reason why Thomas broke out of his engine is because his twin inside the capsule caused the twin effect and destroyed Thomas when coming in contact with him, not only that but Thomas was being mind controlled by the real Thomas in the tube, it was also because his body was unstable from the long ride and his hormones got messed up causing him to grow bigger and burst out of his shell

It makes more sense using the season 25 Thomas (or at least something like it) as he really does act like a human. I mean what engine would be able to turn their whole boiler like it’s their head to look behind themselves. Human characteristics on a S25 Thomas makes more sense than one of a model series one of example.
