Confession...my Surgeon .338 has never killed anything - this is purely my target rifle. However, the .338 Lapua would be very well suited for any large game on the North American continent. Probably the perfect long range elk rifle. I harvested lots of game with many other rifles, but not his one :-/

The new Hornday 285 gr BTHP are actually a great choice. I like to use the 300s in the Sierra MK. The Lapua 300 gr Scenars are excellent. The 250s are fine as well, but the 285s and 300s do a bit better at extreme ranges.
