If you ‘got it right every time’ that still won’t help. The scammer can still switch the card before turning it over, or another one of their team will bet on a different card and they ‘will have to take the larger bet’.

It's actually scary when you realize that when you see those scams on the street there's a crowd, and most of them are with the dealer who try to reel some poor soul in, surrounded in scammers

AND depending on where the scam is happening, someone in the crowd could just grab your wallet and run. Remember these people are scammers, they don't care about winning the "right" way. Almost everyone in that crowd is in on the scam

I've seen this done in NY. Also, even though Steven talked about others being part of the team, you need to know that it's usually not just the people that win that are part of the team. There are also lookouts and pickpockets that can be part of the team. So even if you don't play, if you stop to watch, be VERY careful.

Another big part of this scam is the pickpocket hanging round to see where you keep your money or if you have any other valuables on you.

The real scam is telling people they're watching a scam so that they're impressed and then give you money anyway...dun.dun.DUUUUNNN.

I've seen different people do this 3-card monte scam more than a dozen times in major cities. The one time that an actual player spotted the right card, when the scammer started reaching for his wallet to pay the player, a person in the crowd - who was working with the scammer, of course - loudly shouted, "Police. We gotta run!" The scammer ran off immediately, even leaving behind the cheap wooden table and the three cards. Of course, there wasn't actually any police officers around - that was just their way of literally running away so they don't have to pay out.
