WC3. The first game of my life and still favorite. Really there is no rts better than this.

The big reason I love C&C series is the simple thing that they don't have unit limit!

@stormgx, A&A is LISTED as RTS, so it qualifies. Just because a game gives you TBS options doesn't make it automatically turn-based. It's similar to how Warcraft 3's heroes may give you RPG-style playing options, but that doesn't automatically make War3 RPG.

@Alamandorious, well, everyone has their reasons as you can see. What I love about WC3 is its gameplay variety. Winning can be done in multiple ways: heroes or no heroes, small or slightly larger armies, etc. Plus, the limitless creativity that WC3 provides players stands out above the rest. Several user-created games (most notably DotA) have been born from WC3 alone. Throw in a fantastic story and deep single-player campaigns and you can see why it's ranked at the top.

I think you did a good job overall in your picks. I agree that Dune 2 is the game that started everything. I just played all the campaigns in DOSBOX a couple of months ago. People have to understand that this post is subjective & we all see things differently. BTW....Axis & Allies is one very, very fun game to play! Timegate Studios did a great job with the Kohan series & A&A!  

I won't say anything about your list until I hear your personal reasons for liking those games, which is why I always encourage people to make their own top tens and express their own opinions on what's best. For me, if you back up your choices with well thought out reasons, your list will be outstanding even if I disagree.

My only difference is replace Axis and aliies with Rise of Nations...I like A&A alot, but it did not grab me like the other....The rest of your list is spot on...I see so many without TA and I'm like these people are not RTS players ...lol The first time I saw a freedom fighter do a barrel roll in a turn, I was hooked and still play the crap out of it today and TA universe is still going... Definite Fan Boy.... Good one man....If you have not tried Company of Heores 1 go get it ...you'll love it and I still also play dune 2 alot just a fun game...
