For those who don’t know. Emilia Perez is about a Mexican drug lord who wants to turn his life around, and decides to transition into a woman. And because of that, the movie pardons Emilia Perez of any wrongdoing she did in the past as a drug lord. Not only that, but the acting is terrible, the actresses supposedly are Mexican but they didn’t even bother to practice the language, there are SO MANY spelling mistakes that a 3rd grader would make.

To people not in the know and want the absolute shortest version possible: Emilia Pérez poorly represented both Mexican people and transgender people and when given backlash by people from both groups, there was basically no remorse for how badly they did both groups. To top it off, the fact it’s been winning so many film awards despite these comments about how it lacked representation that people wanted and over better films has made people absolutely despise it. If you’re able to, it’s definitely worth proper reads about how in-depth they managed to disappoint almost everyone, really.
