The idea of unlocking extra characters on top of everything else being teased for this game is just unreal - fingers crossed it is true!

Since Stardust Speedway was confirmed, it's a no brainer Metal Sonic is going to be a boss. But what if playing as Tails and Knuckles results in you fighting the Tails Doll and Metal Knuckles? I'd be down for that. And due to the Sonic R tokens being in this game, what if they unlock skins of those characters for Sonic, Tails and Knuckles?

The bronze coins unlocking a Metal Sonic campaign would make the most sense if they are going with classic characters only. Otherwise, a modern skin for the playable characters would work but is unlikely. But those are just my thoughts.

It would be cool to see other characters in a normal classic Sonic game, like Amy.

I would assume that Metal Sonic, the Chaotixs, Mighty, and Ray are the unlockable character

16 bit music is confirmed by Tee Lopes but I don't think there will be some additional characters but maybe some additional levels/easter eggs. Who knows?

Watch them be likee the red rings in Sonic 4, existing just for achievements.

Metal Sonic, Amy, and the Chaotix would all be cool, but people would be so happy for this to be Mighty and Ray's return

if there was any unlockable characters, It'd have to be Amy/Rosy (as she was called back then)

If the Bronze Coin in Mania does unlock new characters, it could either be Amy Rose or Metal Sonic.

I think it would be great for 16 bit music versions, boss rushes, concept art, or extra stages......
