Egoism is the primary result of the "fall" of mankind, and it is also at the root of so many human tragedies.

Gen 2:19 "So the Lord God formed out of the ground various wild animals and various birds of the air, and he brought them to the man to see what he would call them, whatever the man called each of them would be its name."

Amen! Restoration was and continues to be God's plan for mankind, and any true Scriptural believing Christian understands that! "For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son......" - John 3:16A. Yet, we also do recognize the importance of God's justice as we look forward to standing before the 'bema' seat of Christ. Psalm 97:2 - "....Righteousness and justice are the foundation of His throne." (The Orthodox Study Bible 2008 by St. Athanasius Academy of Orthodox Theology).

The doctrine of original sin is a heresy condemned by the Orthodox Church. It is not possible for anyone to inherit the guilt of another person. The Orthodox Christian teaching about the ancestral sin has nothing whatever to do with Augustines heresy of "Original Sin."

Somebody below endeavored to use Romans 5:12-14 as a justification for the concept of Original Sin, as understood by St. Augustine. This is what we read in Romans 5:12: "Therefore, just as sin entered the world through one man, and death through sin, and in this way DEATH came to all people, because all sinned". It is DEATH (not sin) that came to all people. Sin entered the world, by virtue of which, sin (or rather sinfulness) became possible for other humans. But it is unjustifiable to assert, based on the Scriptures, that the newly born are automatically tainted with Adam's sin or that they are directly guilty of it.

Archbishop Lazar, May I ask a question about 'self love'. For me I see a stark difference between the love 'of' oneself to the love 'for' ones self. To me ~
