The first part, the exporting from blender, is basically the same. The 3D model import is something that is special to HitFilm in that it is natively implemented - if you want to do this in After Effects, you need a plugin like Video Copilot's Element 3D. I don't have it so I'm not familiar with it, but you can easily find tutorials on that too.

Excellent tutorial. Covered so much, so quickly, but very clear.

AWESOME overview! Although ctrl - z is a better keyboard shortcut than clicking the back button every time ;).

In After effects, just create a new composition, add a solid, and apply Element effect on solid. Go to element proprieties and click to import obj. Sorry about my english :)

Not directly, but you can use any layer to provide the source for the particle texture of a particle system. They're not truly 3D anymore, but with some tweaking can give the impression as if they were.

Yeah, probably... I do this without noticing, thanks for pointing it out :D

Oh, you're right... Sorry. Well, you should have set up the rotors as a separate animation group on import, so it has it's own transform properties in the timeline. By keyframing the rotation of the rotor-group you can make it spin.

I use HitFilm 2 Ultimate, but the decision is dependent on what you want to do - have a look at the feature comparisons and download the demos, maybe HitFilm 2 Express will perfectly fit your needs.

Ah crap, yes my homepage went offline due to some hackers and I forgot this would also shoot the project files offline. Is fixed now, the link should work again! :)

No you can't, as the currently supported object files (obj, 3ds and lwo) are just static objects, but you can animate them inside HitFilm. Things like mesh deformation are not possible (yet) in HitFilm though.

OK, well I have element 3d, a plugin for after effects, and it seams to have all the same features as hitfilm. Can you make the objects particles?

So can you import animated objects? Also, is that raytracing?
