Something you may not have considered, is that the State Trooper could be responding to a call. There are a few circumstances in which police officers are allowed to speed to a call without the use of audio/visual devices as they may jeopardize the element of surprise. I know this sounds ridiculous but I have done several ride-alongs with my best friend who is a Maryland PO and he explained that to me a few times. However, he could also just be speeding because he feels above the law too lol!

Regardless of your understanding of traffic law in Maryland, the fact remains that this LEO was driving recklessly, and had a civilian executed any of these maneuvers, she or he would have been pulled over and cited. (Less importantly--but since you brought it up--I knew exactly where my phone was, did not have to search for it, moved it without looking at it, kept a safe distance and did not tailgate anyone, and dropped back before I felt unsafe.)

From what I understand Police responding code 3 would mean lights and sirens. However, I believe code 2 would still entail responding in an expedited fashion. That is, a high rate of speed. Either way, this officer might well have been responding to a call.

@KennethHasUTubeCams2 Loose-ferret theories aside, the main problem was that it was NOT an open road in the sense that there were other cars on it, it was a BRIDGE (so no real place to pull over), and he was TAILGATING the cars in front of him while going over 80 mph. He was a menace on the road.

I agree no cop has the right to speed and be above the law and anyone who thinks the cop is in no wrong has double standards

@laxa30 Right. Traffic laws don't apply to cops. That's why there's one set of laws for cops, and one set for the rest of us. It says it right there in my CrazyLand pamphlet. Pick up your copy today.

@acballa3369 You're so right. What was I thinking? LEOs should be able to do absolutely anything without question, even if it puts people in danger like this guy was. I mean, they're LEOs, right? They're above the law, right? We can't go around questioning authority--it upsets the order of things.

@BaltimoreAndOhioRR - he was going 100+, no code. i was behind him in code, from a stop. He never touched his brake lights so he was gone. He didn't answer car-to-car, so i radio'd SP barracks and asked who they had in my zone, and their dispatch said no one.. whatcha gonna do. If you see something like that, and you can ID the vehicle, don't call the local barracks, call the headquarters.

Most people don't think about it, but he could be listening to a regular public radio just as well as his police radio. He probably heard an ad for a new donut shot special, and was rushing to get there. :D

Not forgetting to mention that the vehicle he was allegedly tailgating, should feel luck that the trooper didnt write him a citation for Impeding Traffic. Thats right, they can do that. The left lane is for passing, when faster traffic comes up behind you, you are supposed to change lanes. You better hope you never need his help at an accident scene.

He might be on a code 2- Respond with no lights or sirens unless at major intersections with a red light..
