So why do most 9mm handguns have 18 round magazines while my Ruger has 10 in the stack? Hmmm?

I agree. NOBODY wants to get shot with anything. And the .22's light weight, and ease of use make it a mean deterrent. But my .45 compact has also earned my respect :)

a 22 is just as deadly as any other caliber for those who think s 22 is weak round your wrong a shot through the chest or head bye bye

Yes, when fired to the back of the head from barrel-touching distance, and used because it didn't require a bulky silencer to muffle the blast, especially at such ridiculously short range.

Good point. A man with a SW 500 vs a man with a .22 LR, who hits first usually wins. The man with the 500 will not practice as much as the man with a .22.

In a combat sistuation where adreneline is pumping I would agree. In the average home confrontation, the criminal is looking for loot, not a fight. He is ready to run at a moments notice and will run for the door if shot in the ass with a BB gun. Also, if you plug someone with something like a .577 T-Rex or VXR 460, the lawyers will have your balls for breakfast for using excessive force. You tag someone with a .22 and the authorities have a hell of a time proving you were looking for a fight.

For me 22 mag would be the perfect caliber for self defense (I also think 9 is good too), Kel Tec PMR-30 is my fav gun. Light weight, 30 round high cap in a standard mag, super deadly, excellent accuracy, and way cheaper than 9mm. 22LR........well it's good, but I will only use it as my last backup gun, and I do love 22LR, it's fun to shoot, but for me it's just not powerful enough unless you place all your shots in the head in a stressed out situation.

One thing about .22lr that makes it especially well-suited(for such a diminutive round) for personal defense is that its 40 grain bullet does wildly unpredictable things in tissue. A .22 bullet might enter someone's lower thigh (just above kneecap) but exit from their neck, of course this destroys all tissue in between giving that round a much higher wounding potential than a bullet that SEE NEXT COMMENT BOX...

nice :D yeah that's an heirloom piece to hand down for sure. They're going to just keep going up up up. Maybe one of these days i can free up enough disposable income to pay the ask these days, but i doubt it. I would LOVE to see Smith buck the plastic trend and put out something similar to the 3rd gens, and at least one of them in 10mm. I don't want a duplicate, that would dilute the original, but similar would be nice. All the best, J

If you're talking about historical matters and the original Henry and Winchester 1873 rifles, you're talking about the .44 Rimfire (Henry) and either the .44-40 or .45 Colt for the 1873.
