In terms of finding the right tip for bass performance, I think the snugger it fits in your ear the better it will all sound; bigger tip the better, so that it can get nice a cozy in there; smaller tip will slip out or sweat will trickle in. As for the pulsing sound you mention, do you mean as you are running or moving around and it sounds more like a thumping sound? I haven't found a way to get around that but I seem to ignore it after a while. Cheers!

No clue what the sony ones are like but the isports are probably the most durable that I have seen and used. Completely water proof as well
