Description
Part of the everlasting storm . . .

The thunderstorm is upon us, and all common sense is lost. Chaos reigns in the streets, and God's acid rain is pouring. We deserve to have his acid rain poured right on us. The charge of the thunderstorm is here, and I a follower of Christ am amongst the chaos. I think, feel, live, and breath the complexities of this walk, walking in the eye of the chaos of this world. Absorbing all life's complexities. The stereotype of the Christian is still prevalent. It must be shattered. But before we can do that, we must first shatter our own myths and our own misconceptions about our own tradition. As brothers and sisters in Christ walking in this hard walk, we must strip away our biases about non-salvational issues and unite as one body to not only fight off the myths and stereotypes created by non-believers, but also the one's we've created about ourselves. We must stand united as one.

I did not misunderstand Bethke. Bethke divorced Christ from his theological and historical second temple Jewish context. To say that Jesus came to abolish religion or was against organized religion is to misunderstand Christ.

Jesus only established one Church (religion) to fight evil and to provide the way to the Father. The answers provided here in these posts only proves how important it is to belong to the RCC.

The presence of this very debate is illustrative of the great hole in Jeff Bethke's theology. I've seen hundreds upon hundreds of replies on this thread, wrangling over the meaning and correct interpretation of such and such scriptural text. This begs the question: if God would decide to leave behind a deposit of sacred writ, and, God knowing the way in which humankind finds disagreement over any and everything so easily, does it not follow that He also would leave behind, or anoint, a magisterial authority, armed with the task of ensuring the proper interpretation survives?

You know what stood out to me, to look after orphans and widows in their distress and to keep oneself from being polluted by the world, yet we as mankind are not.

"I don't think Jesus is at church with us because the Bible says he sits at the right hand of the Father."

James 1:26-27 actually proves Jefferson's point. The quote basically says that God doesn't like religions since most people merely go through the rituals but don't act as good people, which is most definitely true today, so religion is worthless to God. God doesn't want rituals or specific beliefs, God just wants everyone to be good people. That's it, nothing more nothing less.

@davidarthur1985 That verse in context refers to the hypocrisy of giving God praise with their lips and praxis while ignoring Him elsewhere in their lives. Remember God was the one who commanded those festivals and assemblies. It isn't the festivals, etc. that were the problem - it was the people.
