I took it to Carbone BMW service department in Utica. The mechanic there took a look and a listen. He said the spark plugs were a coinidence and the sound did not seem to be harmful to the engine.

Look up DIY valve adjustment procedure. Valve clearance is .010in. You can pick up a set of feeler gauges at an auto parts store for around 4-5 dollars. The tick is actually coming from the rocker arms under the valve cover. On a healthy m20b25 engine the tick will be subtle but definitely there, however any loud out of rhythm ticking or nonexistent ticking should prompt adjustment. Cheers!

Adjust your valves and use 15W40 oil. That should quiet down your engine.

I also asked what he could get a muffler for and he suggested I don't buy one there. They also had wifi and TV in the waiting room. I would recomend Carbone Auto Group to anyone.

Dude u need a new camshaft. What happens is that after a while of long use (160k + miles) the lobes obser the camshaft begin to wear down so you're car starts to sound like a diesel because the valves are nit oppening all the way. This happened to my car

Mines doing the same thing had to replace the vaccum seal it’s now running but sounds like that

Valves adjustment thats all u need dont do it yourself the first time take a good look learn. That m20 last forever.

That was one of my thoughts. I had also just recently replaced my accelerator cable. Perhaps with a combination of proper accelerator cable on the thottle body plus proper spark plugs, this could have thrown the clearances off.

i did a oil change and now i have this problem, but i was thinking it be because i didnt use heavy duty oil. havent tried to replace the oil yet.

the only that sucks on this engines, is the quality of the Original cilinder heads "885".
