I have the Xbox version of this game and I'm not sure why, but the crystal doesn't do anything when I touch it or lick it. I've never gotten that mutator~

It doesn't work for me the crystal turns invisible but I can still head butt it and kick it and it still has the massage at the bottom of the screen head-butted/kicked blue crystal
