Man, that is really extreme. Now one can imagine what those traction motors can do!!!! That's some serious power. Thank you for sharing!!!!!!

The power in these machines is fascinating to me for some reason.

Several trains in Sweden actually have traction control, and ABS. I think that is a pretty cool technology.

My experience with wheelslip is that they start to hop, which can shear the pinion gear off the motor shaft. I've never heard of a nice, smooth peeeeeeeel like in this film. Very interesting. I'm sure that all the Dash 9s have automatic traction control as it adds considerably (like 20%) to the available tractive effort. I once was on a road switcher job that had two GP-40 locomotives. On our way back to the yard, we managed to gather up nearly two miles of cars, totaling around 11,000 tons. We didn't have too far to go, and evidently the dispatcher didn't mind that we were taking awhile lol. Engineer was doing pretty well at immediately backing off one notch whenever we felt wheel slip. Of course the sanders were on the whole time. Traction motors were running in the non-continuous current range. :)

Listen to those massive turbos. Sounds akin to a jet engine. Awesome.

That was cool. You can really tell which locomotive has the more modern wheel slip technology.

I have loved trains since I was little and this thing sounds like music to my ears.
