Pi is such an underated masterpiece

Check out the first shot of this clip: Max is doodling on the newspaper, specifically, curves and inscribed circles. To many ancients, it was considered a sign of madness to try and "Square the Circle," an impossibility using plane geometry.

I first watched this at 19 and now at 41 I can honestly testify of the profound impact this movie & lesser also his other works impacted me. My mind is not be seen as 'sane' but hell I'll never go back to ignorance. Each One Teach One.

To me, there is no better scene ever made in movie history.

This is my favorite scene in the film; absolutely fascinatiing and well played by both actors, and brilliantly directed by Aranovsky. Pi was made on a shoestring budget.

that scene where he sees the fractals in the cig smoke is amazing.. idk how many times, ive had that thought with friends when stoned or tripping in a basement..

they showed this in math today (Pi day, 3/14/09) it blew my mind

That's sort of the point, the film itself doesn't have anything to do with secret deeper meanings and hidden endings and explanations, the film is about Max slowly driving himself to insanity.

Greek and Italian mathematics were obviously more advanced then Hebrew mathematics, but that is only because of the different times in history that they happened. Also the Greeks and Italians were more fascinated in shapes, forms, mass, weight, distance,(physical stuff) while the Hebrews were interested in patterns, astrology, numbers, codes. In fact Hebrew mathematics was what founded the first financial systems, even their symbolism alongside the Torrah is all coded in numerology.

Just saw this, can't stop thinking about it, especially the ending.

2nd meaning.... The polar equation of a logarithmic spiral is written as r=e^(a*theta), where r is the distance from the origin, e is Euler's number (about 1.618282), and theta is the angle traveled measured in radians (1 radian is approximately 57 degrees).... theta is the angle traveled... 1st meaning... theta = 9... there is a third meaning as well. i may write it out. it's kinda long so i duno

who would have thought of making a movie about math. brilliant.
