I think part of what made the lich so good as a character is how little he's used. It really allowed the creators to put some real thought into his character and mannerisms, as well as his actions, all of which feel very in character and logical based on his goal.

I just love how shallow the lichs motivation seems so shallow for a writers perspective. “Lol he’s evil so he just want to kill everything” but his actual plans, actions and cosmic significance carry such a simple idea to greatness.

What scares me most about the Lich is not his appearance, his goal, his abilities or his actions, although that too is terrifying. What is most frightening is how little we know about him. We only know that he was created from a catalyst comet, but except for that we know nothing. The Lich is a character who literally appears out of nowhere and when he does he sows terror. He is like a plague that you can't predict, you can't stop him, you can only minimize the damage. And what's worse, he doesn't do it because he has to, he does it all because he wants to. That's why, in my opinion, he is the most terrifying cartoon villain and one of the most terrifying villains in general.

I love how misguided the lich is throughout his entire story. He wanted to create chaos to appease the embodiment of chaos but completely misunderstood what that means. He thought death was chaos when in reality, it's life that is chaotic
