I did this for 6 months one summer; it was one of the best times of my life-- I even picked up a part time job in a small town near a huge lake.. which let me save some money. One thing I would like to do next time though, is pair down the ammount of gear I brought with me. I find that less is more when you're using your vehicle like this.

Very nice! Please do be careful leaving a leash on your dog when they are in the water. I've heard quite a few times (mostly by duck hunters) where their dog's leash has gotten caught on something underwater and almost (or did) drowned them. As long as the dog can stand though it should be fine

3 of my favorite things...German shepherds, wind rivers,and pretty lady! I was just up in the winds last week of June. For my birthday/ fathers day annual trip,just me and my sheppy,and my fj cruiser. My sheppy is like yours,very protective, best buddy. Take care of yourself and him! Peace.

Very cool experiences! I am curious, does your pups naturally avoid rattlesnakes? Duke loves snakes (to play with), being northern indiana i don't worry too much. But it has always led me to not make him a trail dog.
