A large jet-engined aircraft can produce winds of up to 120 mph as far away 200 ft behind it at 40% maximum rated power. Any FOD on the runway would become a very dangerous missile.

i used to work at HNL and in our classroom for all the new hires had an example of Jet Blast, an employee that didn't listen to the warnings, he had the one side of his face blasted as a jet was pulling up to the jetway on the apron, he passed by the rear - driving the Tug...his face was melted...lucky he wasn't killed

Ah, if I was a pilot taking off from there I'd sit on the runway for like 5mins with engines at 75% and laugh at all the people being blasted into the water haha

Maybe the people at the beach were unaware that they were going to be in that situation. You would think by now someone would be smart enough to cordon off that area.

You’d think that part of the beach wouldn’t be open if it was dangerous. Why would a civilian know the safety distance for a jet? One would think the damage zone would be contained to inside the airport.
