When my brother and I hunt in Rise, as soon as we get a tail cut, we carve it. It is pretty much a minigame for us trying to carve the tail as the monster goes after us.

Everyone knows, you carve the tail in front of the monster, so it can see what's gonna happen to it next. It just isn't as impactful if you wait for the monster to run away.
