Dubai gives you that uncanny valley feeling. Like it has everything but still feels "empty". Almost empty of trees and constant sun throughout the day just wears you out.

I've never understood the appeal of dubai. It's skyscrapers in the middle of the desert. No cultural or historical significance or charm. Its the opposite of Singapore, which is how modern cities should be designed with a focus on sustainability and greenery. Dubai is a giant concrete reminder of depression if it were buildings.

Just imagine if instead of spending billions on skyscrapers that you can find in any western city, they'd invest in constructing a medieval arab looking city, with minarets, narrow alleyways, domes, mosques, all made from stone, you know, something that represent the culture.. they could build the most enchanting modern Arabic city

Being in Dubai is like being at a rich kids house they got everything but you dont want to be there.

Dubai was built like that for a reason, so that the visitors wouldn’t have anywhere to go except spend they’re money in the shops that are inside those towers.

I knew Dubai is a shallow, soulless place once all the "influencers" moved there

It's amazing how Dubai looks like a battle royale map. Mostly empty areas with some cars/palm trees/walls for cover but with some dense areas with a lot of empty buildings for campers

That University looks like a nightmare. Imagine having a class in the front then another class all the way on the other side of campus with only 10 minutes to Usian Bolt run that.

The fact that the average person sees NOTHING of value in Dubai, actually is refreshing.

Rome was not built in a day, it is still standing and its beauty is eternal. Paris, Rome, NYC, London and Tokyo are iconic because these cities have authenticity and distinct characters.

The funny thing is the other day I was passing by Songdo, a brand new city built on reclaimed land in South Korea, and I kept thinking to myself what is it in this shiny city that makes me uncomfortable and not willing to live here. Then it got to me: no ordinary people. No daddies carrying groceries, no mom&pop stores, no food stands, no newspaper stand, no kids playing and rushing, etc. Of course there are people there but compared to other parts of Korean cities that is nothing. I think the very average low income working class people that we all seem to run from is what makes a city a city - a vibrant and lively place of interactions and living.

To be fair, this is the point of Dubai. Exclusivity. They don't want the rich part of the city to feel welcoming to pedestrians, it's intentionally designed to feel like a series of shopping trips. Rich people love walling themselves off
opwanncanopie (12 hours ago)
"You never have to interact with any other person the entire time you're there" .... and that's exactly what rich people like, tbh.

Not just the worlds tallest skyline, but also the worlds most hastily built skyline. I’d question the structural integrity of Dubai
