Poirot was spot on except for his comments on English cheeses. English cheeses are actually really good.

Fish and chips… too much breading, too little fish. I’d crisps over chips any day. Blackened fish with crisps - now that is a nice combo.

After all Poirot said about English cuisine, he actually liked Fish and chips. Who wouldn't though?

As a foreigner myself, I agree: disgusting as fish and chips really are, in dire hunger there are times in a chap's life that he must step over his educated convictions and risk his life by consuming a portion of said amalagmation of grease and hay.

My immigrant parents talk the same way about American food. Then again, compared to South Asian cooking, everything is flavorless.

Fish and chips is considered to be quintessentially English. Maybe the combination is, but fish fried in batter comes from the Netherlands (from the Jewish community there, particularly those of Spanish and Portuguese descent), and chips/French fries are Belgian.
