As an American, you have my full support for fighting for a good cause. It's good to see someone with first hand experience speak up. It makes me sick when so many people go ranting on about something they know nothing about about.

I can't speak for the state of the U.S., as I haven't spent nearly enough time there. But I can say matter of factly, as one who's seen and contributed to the progress made in both nations, that the Iraqi and Afghan people are far better off now than they were prior to international aid. This notion has been reciprocated to me by my Iraqi and Afghan compatriots, and by the civilians I helped during my time there.

I read of a survey recently that showed close to 90% of Afghans didn't know why our military is in their country. This is an utter failure of our government. I think if the people knew they would support us. Of course, I'm not a Muslim facing an occupying force from the other side of the world.
