Why would someone pretend to be a black belt in a gym full of black belts??

"One day I might even be able to promote him to be a true black belt" Spoken like a true teacher of the arts

After seeing this, what Ruben did was totally reasonable. He actually seems like a genuine, nice guy

I personally know 2 black belts that wouldn't have been as nice as Ruben. He conducted himself as a professional, and a martial artist.

Ruben Alvarez has a great mind set: not to judge immediately, to forgive, trying not to be confrontational....

That fake is dangerous and insane. As a fake tatoo artist or a fake BJJ black belt he could have ruined peoples bodies for like. It's only a shame there was no crime. This guy needs to be taken off the streets before he decides to fake being a doctor or something. Good on you for calling him out.

Much respect to you for giving this man the benefit of the doubt and not thinking bad of this man for so many “off” attributes. It’s good to see that you didn’t just fly off the handle and call him out straight away. Shows how disciplined you really are. Good job when you finally did.

BJJ at its finest. I'm still new and I see examples of chivalry like Ruben's every day. I was talking with one of the 'elder' students and jokingly said that the only reason I'd quit would be lack of money. He immediately exploded with a full game plan of how the instructor would still let me join and even if he didn't, they'd all arrange meetings with me to show me the techniques, as long as I stuck to the art.

I've never understood why anyone would want to fake being a BJJ black belt. BJJ is one of the few martial arts where if you are faking, people are going to know right away. As soon as one of the students feels your game, they're going to know you're not a black belt.

What a class act! The ego is a hell of a thing! I thought you handled it very well and was impressed that you didn't get physical to embarrass him and you even offered for him to come back as a white belt. There's nothing wrong with expressing passion and emotion as long as it's done properly, and I think Ruben did just that.
