Back then I mistook apathy as stoicism, but stoicism isn't ignoring emotion. Stoicism is a way of managing emotions.

Genuine stoicism is not about feeling nothing, it's about feeling everything and thinking nothing of it. A lot of people put on an act of stoicism in the form of "I'm not upset, I do not care, I'm not bothered, I'm not emotional." The point of the philosophy is not to act like you do not care or tell yourself and others you are not affected. The point is that as a human you will care about certain things, but you shouldn't care about the fact that you do care. Look at the Zeno example. He said, you cannot control the things that happen to you, but you can control how you react to them. Does that mean that you must put on a facade that nothing happened? No. It means you accept what has happened, you feel what you feel, and then you carry on despite that. If you're angry then you're angry. If you're sad then you're sad. Acting like you're not, is not stoicism. It's more self delusion. Accepting the fact that you're angry or sad, and then leaving it at that and moving forward, not letting those feelings affect you beyond simply feeling them, THAT is the philosophy of Zeno. He didn't say he unbreakable. There is no such thing in existence. He said, it is better to bend than to break, and accepting the fact that life is going to bend you plenty, and accepting the fact that you don't have to think anything of it, is the essence of stoicism.

I believe someone who’s been through tough times in life , somehow reaches a point where he’s already a stoic , whether he knows it or not. That I believe is the summit of maturity.

Stoicism is understanding that everything in life is neutral, unless we give it meaning. The goal is to just experience everything with all our senses. There's no need to add meaning to this experience. No need to judge, label, or define it. If you can't help but add meaning, add positive and colorful meaning to it.
