One thing to keep in mind with Mephiles is that he's a vile, brutal, kniving, sinister, and insidious entity. Why'd he trick Silver? Cuz he could. Why'd he kill Sonic? To make Elise cry. He should have killed her specifically, but killing him took him out of the picture as the only real threat in his eyes and he got to spread pain and sorrow. He just wanted to cuz he's that sadistic and malicious of an entity

You're being hypocritical of infinite. Shadow knew to stay way from him after he got the ruby. People chalk him up to being bitter about what shadow did to him, and thats just wilfully ignorant of whats shown and implied. Infinte is clearly angry but no one ever things why he got that angry, shadow wiped out his squad so that makes his response towards not being able to avenge them unjustified? And he's not a coward either, we knew shadow was too strong for him and after he got the ruby he really messed with his head and made the world think he became evil again. And notice shadow never fought him again directly in the base game. And episode shadow is key to his origin, the fact they they don't show them fight once he got the ruby is purposeful.
