I think you're supposed to push the rubber tube covering all the way down before inserting to avoid scratching toilet, then push and crank.

This worked for me on the first try!!! Thanks!! Once you insert the tool, push the handle using a little force this will allow the end to reach the bottom of the toilet base. I pushed it in and out a few times and extracted it counter clockwise and the first flush was back to normal!!!!!
