Description
Sublime, was founded in 1988 by Eric Wilson, Bud Gaugh and Bradley Nowell. Their first self-produced album, 40oz. to Freedom, was released in 1992 and its success secured Sublime signing to MCA Records. On May 25, 1996, lead vocalist and guitarist Nowell tragically passed away and the band collapsed, but the eponymous SUBLIME was still slated for a July 1996 release. Sublime has gone on to sell over 18 million RIAA certified albums in the US, and their genre-defining music and their cultural influence is stronger today than ever before. In late 2023, Bradley Nowell’s son Jakob Nowell joined original Sublime members Bud Gaugh and Eric Wilson on stage for the first time to perform at a benefit concert for Bad Brains’ H.R. With an undeniable musical synergy, the trio decided to move forward and continue the Sublime legacy, starting a new chapter of the band with Jakob Nowell as front man. ‘A Tribute to Sublime’ out May 9.

Lou Dog was born in 1989 and died in 2001. This means he was alive for EVERY DAY of the 1990s. Lou was a true 90s dog.

The 90s were truly an amazing time to be alive.

you know what's sad? every single person on this earth knows who Kurt Cobain is, but not too many people know who Bradley Nowell was. I know they played completely different musical styles but in terms of influence and musical impact they were the same, both defined a generation and inspire many many bands. Bradley deserves so much recognition, such a legend.

My high school history teacher was talking to me one day and said “you know what let me see your phone I’m gonna show you some music you’ll like let me know what you think” that man showed me who sublime was and every time I listen to them it reminds me of him. Hope he’s doing well.
