Headcanon: Car is some sort of guardian angel. An angel that feels nothing but joy and love at all times, and that radiates onto us. The darkness that surrounds him represents the darkness surrounding us all, and Car is the light. The internet tends to be a breeding ground for negativity of all sorts, so that's why he manifests as a silly cgi cat on the internet.
