I find it amusing that surely each of these hundreds of disappeared states and empires considered themselves great, unsurpassed and the most important on this earth. Centuries will pass, and perhaps the people of the future will see our empires and states in the same way as a 5-minute existence on the map, and after a sunset or transformation into something else, more or less.
