This is absolutely heartbreaking. It's devastating to think that an emergency situation turned into such a tragic outcome. First responders should be working together, not against each other. I hope the families involved find some peace and accountability comes from this.

this felt like a deep dive therapy session. That moment at 9:50 explaining the HOA president's paranoia driving the security crackdown? THAT was a major breakthrough moment for understanding the root cause. And then hearing about the community starting to heal around 28:35... felt like progress. Still processing the trauma shared at 4:40 though, intense stuff.

One other thing the darts used in tasers are barbed like large fish hooks, and their proper removal requires a local anesthetic administered in an emergency room. Otherwise, tissue damage can result in infection, and possible amputation or worse.

Well from the first 4 min security is already guilty of interfering with emergency service personnel ( misdemeanor or felony depending where they were) Using force on the medic will up it to felony aggravated assault anywhere in the US. The patient dying means a minimum manslaughter charge. He and the HOA board are also open to wrongful death suit for creating the situation . The HOA board could also be charged as accomplices to the manslaughter depending on the local DA.

My brother was a Paramedic & EMT. Messing with him is like assaulting a cop.

Interesting. I saw this exact same story on a different channel about a day or so ago. Same names, same event. The only difference was the name of the housing development.

Yes, there are HOA's that actually block emergency services. But hindering emergency services is a crime. In Michigan, the HOA or any gated business/home provides emergency services with an access code. They don't have to in many cases but do so voluntarily. Why? If there is an emergency and cannot get in they will ram the gate. Turn it into scrap. If the code doesn't work or malfunctions; they will ram the gate. At the full expense of the owner including damage to any of their vehicles. I've see an ambulance ram a gate at an apartment complex. I've also seen a firetruck (engine) ram the gate of a storage place. Owners provide access to prevent damage.

I work security for most of my life and retired doing it and no security guard in his right mind would taser somebody basically policeman or a EMT service most security guards are better trained than that so I want to make sure people don't hate security guards because they're just doing their job like anybody else this guy was definitely wrong in this story

Brad wasn't arrested? The paramedic didn't ram the gate with the ambulance ? Security firm not licensed? So many questions so many law suits . Jury deliberation for 2 days ??

The jury was out for two days? They shouldn't have been out for more than 20 minutes, this was unconsionable. I've worked in gated communities and secured high-rise condos, and our protocol for dealing with medical emergencies was clear in the gated communities upon receiving word of a medical emergency the officer on the gate was to open it and clear all traffic from the drive, while the patrol officer ( in a proper sedan or SUV no stupid golf cart) would report to thegate to escort the responders to the location of the emergency and stand by for traffic control or other assistance that may be requested thats it no need for any access approval, passes or any other kind of delay in the condos it was simply open the doors and let them in, if a second officer was on duty dispatch him or her to the unit in question to keep the hallways clear of nosy residents, again no delays or intereference of any kind just let them in and get out of their way.

" Just following protocol" didn't work at Nuremberg, and it doesn't fly here. Tasers are supposed to be law enforcement only items, and even there are only to be carried by officers that are certified to do so, and part of the certification process requires the officer seeking certification to be taserd themselves ( a very unpleasant experience) as their improper use can be fatal if the individual it's used on has any kind of heart problem.

In Asia like Singapore and Indonesia, communities that live in gated fortresses are commonplace though they have exceptions for emergency responders.

This is a problem with a lot of private security companies from what I've noticed. They employ a bunch of regular Joes off the street, give them the bare minimum training and just send them to their respective jobs. Some of these guys act as a fresh rookie out of the academy or someone fresh out of boot camp in the military being all uptight and rigid in how they enforce security policies, rules, or intense situations that require a cool but decisive mind. I honestly think security contractors should regularly train with law enforcement to help better train these people how to be tough and knowledgeable enough to do their jobs but have the presence of mind to know when to stop being a security guard and start being a human being.
